First Honorary Member Appointed

We are pleased to announce Prof Hans Niemantsverdriet as the first Honorary Member of the Singapore Catalysis Society, in recognition of his important contributions to this society. The idea of setting up a catalysis society in Singapore was in fact sparked off by Hans back in 2003 which led to the eventual establishment of our society in 2007. He has continued to support the society by speaking at the Inaugural Singapore Catalysis Forum, teaching short courses, and providing valuable contacts in the field of catalysis research. In addition, he has also made significant contribution to the development of chemical research in Singapore by serving on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Institute of Chemical and Engineering Sciences since its inception and is presently its Chairman.

Hans Niemantsverdriet is Professor of Physical Chemistry of Surfaces at the Department of Chemical Engineering and Chemistry of the Eindhoven University of Technology. He served as President of the European Federation of Catalysis Societies between 1999 and 2001. His research interests include surface science and model catalysts in general, and fundamental aspects of  Fischer-Tropsch synthesis in particular. He is author of over 225 articles and three books, and has been Editor of the Journal of Catalysis since 1996.

Welcome Prof Hans!
